Formula 1 says it remains on track to hit its Net Zero 2030 target after cutting its carbon footprint by 35% compared to 2018 levels.
The series reported a 12% reduction in emissions versus 2024, with nearly 80,000 metric tons of carbon emissions removed from its operations since launching its sustainability strategy. The progress comes despite F1 expanding its calendar from 21 races in 2018 to 24 events in 2025.
Much of the reduction has come from logistics, travel, and facility operations. Factory and office emissions are down 64% since 2018, while logistics emissions have fallen 29% and travel emissions 27%.
F1 said 2025 marked the first season in which lower-carbon solutions were deployed across all major freight modes—land, air, and sea. The sport also doubled its investment in sustainable aviation fuel, reducing related air charter emissions by roughly 40%, and made its first investment in sustainable maritime fuel.
At race venues, alternative energy systems powered paddock and technical operations across every European Grand Prix, helping cut event-operation emissions by 17% on a per-race basis.
“As Formula 1, we act and show our achievements through facts, not just words,” said Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali. “We remain on track to achieve net zero by 2030.”
Looking ahead, Formula 1 plans to further reduce its reliance on air freight through expanded sea freight operations, regional logistics hubs, and a more geographically efficient race calendar beginning in 2026. The series expects more than half of its broadcast and related freight currently transported by air to shift to lower-carbon alternatives by the end of the decade.
