Aaron Tveit will return to Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” later this month, reprising his Tony Award-winning role as Christian for the production’s final weeks at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Tveit will perform in 15 performances from August 18 through August 29. Christian Douglas will then return as Christian for the show’s final Broadway performance on August 30.
Tveit originated the role of Christian when “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” opened on Broadway and won the 2021 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance. Most recently, he appeared on Broadway as Freddie Trumper in “Chess.”
During his limited engagement, Tveit will join a cast that includes original cast member Ricky Rojas as Santiago, Kelsie Watts as Satine, AK Naderer as Nini, Eric Anderson as Harold Zidler, André Ward as Toulouse-Lautrec, David Harris as The Duke of Monroth, and Arianna Rosario as the Satine alternate.
Directed by Alex Timbers, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” features a book by John Logan based on Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film. Choreography is by Sonya Tayeh, and the score combines contemporary pop songs

The music team includes musical supervisor Justin Levine, music producer Matt Stine, and music director Andrew Graham. Orchestrations are by Levine, Stine, Katie Kresek, and Charlie Rosen, while Levine and Stine also created the dance arrangements.
Since opening on Broadway, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” has won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production also received Tony Awards for Tveit’s leading performance, Danny Burstein’s featured performance, Tayeh’s choreography, Timbers’ direction, orchestrations by Levine, Kresek, Rosen, and Stine, scenic design by McLane, costume design by Zuber, lighting design by Townsend, and sound design by Hylenski.
The production has welcomed more than 12 million audience members across 15 productions worldwide. In addition to its Broadway run, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is currently playing on a North American national tour and in London’s West End, Germany, Korea, The Netherlands, on a world tour, and in non-replica productions in Scandinavia and Italy.
