Ariana Grande to 'Take Step Back from Visibility' After Tour, Withdraws from West End Show

Ariana Grande is taking a step back from the limelight.

The pop icon and actress is currently performing on her “Eternal Sunshine Tour,” which is set to wrap-up in London on September 1. However, following the tour, fans will no longer see Grande consistently in the public eye, her representatives tell PEOPLE.

“Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour,” Grande’s representative told the publication. “She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny. This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”

A source close to Grande told PEOPLE that Grande “performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved.”

“She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night,” the source said.

Grande’s physical appearance has stirred-up controversy among fans over the past few years, but even more so after the star released the music video for “Petal” last week.

Additionally, Grande will no longer be performing in the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George,” where she was set to appear alongside Wicked costar Jonathan Bailey next year.

Grande previously warned fans that the “Eternal Sunshine Tour” might be her last hurrah. She spoke on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast last year, noting that the tour is her only scheduled outing for the time being.

“I’m very excited to do this small tour,” she said on the podcast. “But I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long, long time.”

She added that “I’m going to give it my all, and it’s going to be beautiful, and I’m so grateful.”

“I think that’s why I’m doing it,” she said. “Because I’m like, ‘One last hurrah.’ For now.”

While Grande is widely known for her music, she previously shared in an interview with Variety that she plans to explore “different forms of art” over the next few years, and “I think acting is feeling like home right now.” Grande has previously starred on TV — in shows like Victorious and Sam & Cat — but she has recently gained critical acclaim for her starring role in Wicked and its sequel Wicked: For Good.

She’s set to appear next on the screen in Focker-in-Law, the latest installment in the Meet the Parents franchise, where she’ll appear alongside stars Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.
