Julianne Moore to Star in Off-Broadway's 'Faydra'

Film star Julianne Moore will take on the lead role in Off-Broadway’s “Faydra,” arriving in New York City next year.

“Faydra” is set to make its world premiere via the Manhattan Theatre Club for a limited engagement at New York Center Stage I starting February 2, 2026, followed by an opening on February 25. The production, written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Les Waters, delves into a reimagination of the Greek myth Phaedra.

According to the myth, Aphrodite shoots Phaedra with an arrow, making her lust over her soon-to-be stepson, the son of Theseus. The curse leads to unrequited love, guilt, and tragedy.

“There’s nothing like watching a homegrown Manhattan Theatre Club commission become a magnet for talent,” Artistic Director Nicki Hunter said in a statement. “Sarah Ruhl’s bold, funny, and devastating reimagining of this classic tale will draw the immensely gifted Julianne Moore back to the stage, and mark Les Waters’ return to MTC after three decades. We look forward to announcing additions to this exciting company in the months ahead.”

Tickets will head on sale at a later date. Stay updated via ManhattanTheatreClub.com.

Moore has starred on screen in films like “Still Alice,” “Far From Heaven,” “The Hours,” “The Kids Are All Right,” and “Boogie Nights.” She debuted on Broadway in 2006’s “The Vertical Hour.”
