Rope’ Sets Off-Broadway Cast Led by Elizabeth Gillies, Cameron Monaghan

Elizabeth Gillies, Cameron Monaghan and Jason Butler Harner will lead the cast of a new adaptation of “Rope,” arriving Off-Broadway this fall.

The New Group production will begin previews October 13 at the Theater at St. Clement’s. Opening night is scheduled for November 3, with the limited engagement running through December 6.

Gillies will play Leila, while Monaghan will portray Garrett Stern and Harner will take on the role of Rupert Cadell. The cast also includes Corey Fogelmanis as Nate Singer, Graham Phillips as Richard Raglan and James Waterston as Judge Kentley.

“Rope” follows Princeton graduate students Garrett and Nate, who attempt to prove their intellectual superiority by committing a murder. The pair hide their victim’s body inside a trunk and then host a dinner party in their Turtle Bay apartment, serving food to their guests from the same piece of furniture. The thriller was originally written by Patrick Hamilton and staged in 1929. 

The creative team includes scenic designer Derek McLane, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Jeff Croiter and sound designer Leah Gelpe. UnkleDave’s Fight-House will provide intimacy and fight direction. Valerie A. Peterson serves as production stage manager, with Five Ohm as production supervisor. “Rope” is produced by special arrangement with Mark Cortale and Jeffrey Mahshie.
